The UAE is expected to be the main supplier of base metals to the GCC as the region’s investment in pipes, tubes and steel increases.
Al Fajer Information and Services General Manager Satish Khanna has said that the UAE and particularly Dubai is the “base metals hub” in the region, due to its advanced and modern logistics infrastructure and a strategic location between five continents.

He said: "From aluminium and steel to special and precious metals, the UAE is the place that could provide the entire GCC and Middle East region with base metal products.
“Moreover, the presence of huge aluminium smelters in the region constitutes a great opportunity for the downstream aluminium industry.”
He also predicted that due to an increasing number of construction projects and growing desire among GCC countries to increase their current oil field production capacities, investments in pipes, tubes and steel will exceed AED73billion by 2020.
Khanna added: "The global demand for energy, infrastructure development, construction projects, water and air conditioning supply and automobiles - the key sectors that drive the tube and pipe industry - will continue to grow in the coming years."
Reinforcing the role of the UAE as a hub for base metal supply, is the development of Dubai Industrial City, a massive manufacturing and industrial complex covering 52 million square metres of prime land.
