Developers of Qatar’s flagship Musheireb project have this week announced a massive one million man-hours free of lost time incident/injury (LTI) on the development.
Dohaland, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, said the figures indicated a large number of hours worked without any lost time due to injuries or accidents.
Company executives were keen to add that the achievement was as a result of the firm’s robust health and safety scheme, which includes adoption of local and international regulations, as well as a strict policy of inspection, reporting, third-party auditing and training programmes.

Project director Mohammadd Al Marri told The Peninsula: "This milestone is a reflection of the strict local and international standards that we have applied throughout the project and underscores our commitment to the highest standards of safety management and the welfare of all our workers, contractors and associates on the project.
“This achievement is also a reinforcement of the care and attention taken by Dohaland on all works and planning, with a health and safety policy that is amongst the most strict in the world.”
In line with the ‘Qatar National Vision 2030’, development of the AED 20.17 billion small traditional city in the heart of Doha is hoped to be fully functional by 2016, with the first phase finished by 2012.
Last month, Dohaland announced that construction of the 35-hectare downtown development was progressing right on schedule – main contractor Hyundai Engineering and HBK Construction having begun the concrete pouring for phase 1A of the five-stage project.
Home to 27,637 residents, the project is set transform the landscape in the city of Doha, creating a new commercial business hub whilst providing locals with more residential and recreational options.
When complete, it will contain 226 buildings, 13,700 parking lots, a dedicated tramway and a combination of commercial and residential properties, retail, cultural and entertainment areas.
