Continued growth in infrastructure and public utility projects in the UAE has led to growth in the garden and landscape market, which is estimated to be worth over $70bn, according to organisers of one of the sector’s biggest trade events.

“The UAE construction industry is estimated to be worth around AED2.63 trillion ($714.8bn) with large infrastructure and public utility projects in the pipeline. We estimate that the garden and landscaping needs within this figure to be about ten percent of the construction cost,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, organiser of Garden+Landscaping Middle East.

uae' landscape market worth 70 billion!!!!
Well let's say the figure is true, how can anyone justify spending such money, irrigating a desert to force green landscapes! Firstly it will surely change the eco system there! Secondly why not try artificial trees, bushes and grass! There are some realistic artificial products these days. After all there are many fake people there pretending to have it all. If I went to the desert I would expect to see sand, not grass everywhere!! They should move to greener lands. They seem to be confused: it must be the heat stroke.

As it is, the figure is just an estimate and would remain just that. My own experience tells me otherwise. And my gut feeling is that it would just hover around half of that, and the dough is just so hard to come by. Change in approach, vision, and implementation is inevitable for UAE to really look forward towards developing the industry.
