Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Dhuruma Electricity Company as owner’s engineer for a US$1.6bn power station in Saudi Arabia.
This will be the consultancy’s largest project in Saudi to date. Completion is scheduled for 2013.
Riyadh PP11 is expected to produce around 1,700 MW of electricity. It will be Saudi Arabia’s largest combined-cycle gas-fired power station. The project also involves the construction of a 380 kV gas-insulated substation for the export of the power to the Saudi national grid.
Located 125 km from Riyadh in Riyadh Central Province, the Riyadh PP11 power station is being constructed to meet the rising future demand for electricity in Saudi Arabia, and to facilitate the continued growth of the country.

‘Owner’s engineer’ or ‘client’s engineer’ is a term often given to the representative of the commissioning company of a construction or engineering project. It refers to the personnel involved in technical due diligence.
Mott MacDonald’s project team is to carry out a review of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor’s design. This will then be followed by on-site supervision of the construction, erection and commissioning of the power station and the associated 380 kV switchyard.
“We are delighted to be appointed on this mega-project for Saudi Arabia, which marks our largest project to date in the country. For over 100 years we have played a leading role in helping clients deliver some of the world’s most challenging and prestigious projects in power,” said Mott MacDonald project director Claudio Tassistro.
