The construction of mosques and roads are among the tender opportunities to close in a month’s time in Qatar.
Road improvement works around the capital are among some of the biggest jobs issued by Ashghal, the public works authority, including in the south of Greater Doha in Zones 90 to 95.
Packages 11 and 12 for the construction of mosques and Imam houses are up for grabs and have been organized by the Building Affairs department.
The projects’ tender deadlines range from 21st to 29th September and are some of the latest in the gas-rich state’s drive to improve its infrastructure. The country is expected to outperform other countries in the region up to 2014 by up to 17% year-on-year despite a slump in construction activity last year, according to Business Monitor International.

Other tender opportunities include the construction of an administrative building for the Central Environment laboratory, as well as a consultancy contract for geotechnical investigation for the relocation of Doha South Sewage Treatment Works (Phase1) and pre- contract design and quantity surveying consultancy for Al Shamal Sewage Treatment Works ( STW ).
Tenders for the construction of the peripheral roads to Barwa City and for a post-contract design review and quantity surveying for O&M Temporary Package Treatment Plants both close tomorrow.
Qatar has been firmly on the radar of a number of general managers at the top contractors who have spoken with Construction Week this summer. Laurie Voyer, managing director of Al Habtoor Leighton Group in Dubai said the company “has started to conceptualise more to Saudi Arabia and Qatar” as it reacts to market dynamics that have seen a significant shift of activity away from its home in the UAE.
Kez Taylor at ALEC also cited opportunities, particularly on the back of the established presence in the country of the company’s parent, Al Jaber Group, though also highlighted retail and commercial opportunities in Oman.
