The assembly of refrigeration and air-con units accounts for nearly 50% of the UAE’s machinery and spare-parts manufacturing sector, stretching across 46 industrial units in the UAE.
This is according to the Dubai Export Development Corporation (EDC), an agency of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), which is seeing continual growth in the refrigeration and cooling sector in the coming years.
In 2008, free zones exports of machinery and spare parts totalled AED25 billion, consisting mainly of re-exports, making the free zones an important hub for machinery in the region. Meanwhile, direct exports slightly declined during 2009, following a sharp upward curve to AED40 million from 2000 to 2008. In addition, production of pumps takes second position, with ten operational units across the UAE.

Dubai acts a machinery hub for the region, with exports from free zones approaching AED25 billion in 2008. Meanwhile, the local manufacturing of machinery and spare parts is also flourishing, particularly in the assembly of refrigeration and cooling units.
The sector’s total direct and free zone trade exceeded AED100 billion in 2008, indicative of the large potential lucrative opportunities to manufacturers, suppliers and technical service providers.
“With easy access to resources, technology and excellent trade relations with nations around the world, the UAE aims to further increase its manufacturing and service capabilities in key sectors for which there is growing domestic and regional demand, with the refrigeration and cooling sector being a prime example,” said EDC CEO Engineer Saed Al Awadi, Chief Executive Officer, EDC.
