We speak to ClimaGulf Trading MD Sabu C. Abraham about the introduction of evaporative air-con into the Middle East.
Abraham explains that evaporative cooling technology is ideal for hot climates like the Middle East.
“This is because the technology cools air naturally, effectively and efficiently. It is a simple process, wherein the cool breeze is created by air passing over water-soaked cooling pads. Natural evaporation helps soak up the heat and cools the hot air. The effect created by evaporative air cooling is similar to the cooler conditions found at or near large expanses of water.”
Evaporative air-con is suitable for a range of residential, commercial and industrial applications. “It is immensely beneficial in partially covered and/or ventilated places that require a constant flow of cool, fresh air. It also assists in controlling heat build-up, smoke, fumes and ensures a flow of 100% fresh,cool natural air,” says Abraham.

Applications
Typical applications include auto workshops, gas stations, factories, warehouses, commercial kitchens, outdoor majlis, tents, open restaurants, airports and hangars, bus stations, schools, sports grounds and outdoor swimming pools and even rest areas for site workers. “Evaporative air-con has several inherent benefits over conventional, refrigerated air-con,” says Abraham. These are:
- Low energy consumption: as little as 20% of what is consumed by conventional air-con systems;
- It does not contain harmful CFC gases;
- It improves productivity by supplying 100% fresh and clean air
- The machines are easier and cheaper to install, and easy to maintain
In order to introduce this technology to the Middle East, ClimaGulf Trading has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Seeley International of Australia to launch its range of Breezair evaporative air-con systems in the region.
Abraham explains that ClimaGulf Trading is part of the ClimaGroup, which includes Climapro Tecnic as a sister company specialising in MEP and HVAC services. “Our initial plan did not encompass launching new technology this year, but the downturn had created a need for us to diversify, especially given the constraints of the current business environment in Dubai. That is how ClimaGulf Trading came into being this year.
“The main aim of launching this company at such a juncture is to launch a product line that is energy-efficient, which is a growing trend particularly in the MEP and HVAC industry. This is because the downturn has made people realise the value of energy efficiency in terms of cost-savings, and how the latest technology can positively impact the bottom line by increasing productivity,” says Abraham.
