Albert Speer & Partner (AS&P) and Propojekt have won the GCC Consultancy of the Year award at the 2011 Construction Week Awards. The winners were announced at a gala awards banquet held at the Westin in Dubai last night.
Buro Happold was highly commended for “maintaining its prominent position in the regional market during 2010/11 through a portfolio of exceptionally high-quality projects.”
AS&P and Propojekt jointly devised Qatar’s 750-page, 20kg Bid Book for hosting the 2022 FIFA Football World Cup. It designed eight 45,000-seat stadia with removable seating to be donated to developing countries to build up their sports infrastructure.
Qatar will also be building the first operational CO2 neutral stadia in the world. The judges praised the consultancy’s thoroughness, enthusiasm and dedication to cutting-edge technology and sustainability requirements.
"To bring the FIFA World Cup to the Middle East is a remarkable achievement," said AS&P Spatial and Environmental Planner and Management partner Joachim Schares. "We want to deliver the best World Cup ever and while that's a high ambition, it's one we believe we are able to do.
"To work on the implementation of the Qatar 2022 World Cup for 11 years is a unique opportunity and one that is really special."
