Having cost US$7.2 billion, and been in development for the last four years, the Dubai Metro is finally here as the Gulf’s first project of its kind.

The 50 kilometre Red Line opens on 09/09/09 with 10 stations opening on the day, with the remaining stations expected to be operational by February.

Initially, 11 trains will run on the Red Line, which is expected to carry 3,500 passengers per hour in each direction. Next year will also see the opening of the Green Line, extending the track to 75 kilometres, making the Dubai Metro the longest automated metro system in the world.
