Michel Checoury new chief financial officer of Atlantis owner Kerzner
Former Movenpick exec joins developer of Dubai's under-construction The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences
Kerzner International Holdings, the owner of Dubai’s Atlantis Resort & Residences, among other luxury hotel brands, has named a new chief financial officer.
Michel Checoury, former chief financial officer of Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, has joined Kerzner as its top finance official. In addition to Atlantis Resort & Residences, Kerzner’s portfolio includes the ultra-luxury One & Only Resorts brand.
Atlantis, Kerzner’s flagship brand, includes properties such as the 1,500-key water-themed Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai; the $1.6bn Atlantis, Sanya Hainan in China that opened in February 2018; and the under-construction The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences in Dubai, as well as Atlantis Ko Olina in Hawaii, US. The company’s One & Only-branded properties are located in Mexico, Mauritius, the Maldives, South Africa, Dubai, Rwanda, and Australia.
In his new role at Kerzner, Checoury will be tasked with the development and implementation of the firm’s financial strategy to grow existing and future business plans. His former work experience includes roles with Aman, Mandarin Oriental, Jumeirah, Intercontinental, Starwood, and Euro Disney.
Commenting on the appointment, Kerzner International’s chief executive officer, Michael Wale, said: “I am delighted that Michel has joined us at this pivotal time of strategic growth and further expansion of our existing brands, Atlantis and One & Only.
“Michel has been very successful in driving strong financial results in industry-leading hospitality companies. He has extensive luxury experience and will add a new dimension to our leadership team, driving fiscal discipline within all aspects of Kerzner International, and supporting the expansion of our global footprint.”
Checoury added: “Kerzner International is an exciting business and I am thrilled to be joining the company. Both Atlantis and One & Only are globally recognised brands with strong financial performance. I look forward to continuing to build and grow long-term financial success for the company and being part of the team that leads Kerzner into the future.”
The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences is one of the most high-profile regional developments to open in 2019. Six Construct, the Middle East subsidiary of Belgium-headquartered Besix Group, is building the $1.4bn (AED5.14bn) project in a joint venture with Ssangyong Engineering & Construction.
