Ritchie Bros' last 2018 auction in Dubai sees 1,900 equipment sales
More than 980 bidders from 72 countries bid on heavy equipment items and trucks at two-day event
Global industrial auction house Ritchie Bros held its final Dubai auction of 2018 on 11 and 12 December, selling more than 1,900 heavy equipment items and trucks on the days.
According to a report by Construction Week's sister title PMW Middle East, buyers from all over the world joined in to bid, in person or online, on big ticket items such as excavators, dump trucks, cranes, and wheel loaders, among others.
Some auction highlights included a 2010 Caterpillar D9R CTR which sold for $175,000; a 2015 Caterpillar 140K MGR for $122,500; a 2014 Sany STC500S HTC for $107,500; a Liebherr HS895HD CRD, which went for $270,000; and a 2016 Caterpillar 349D2L Hex, which sold for $225,000.
All items were sold without minimum or reserve prices, with more than 980 bidders from 72 countries joining the December auction – including those from the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
In November 2017, the Canada-headquartered heavy equipment auctioneer announced plans to introduce its Iron Planet online-only equipment auction site to the UAE. This came after its acquisition of Iron Planet through a $758.5m transaction, announced in May 2017.
Ritchie Bros said its November launch would enable the Emirates’ plant, machinery, and vehicles (PMV) community to access a range of user-friendly services. The auctioneer now has more than 30,000 equipment truck, items, and other items in its inventory.
