Besix wins contract to build super-tall tower at DMCC's Uptown Dubai
Belgian builder's Dubai entity Belhasa Six Construct to work on 78-storey Uptown Tower in JLT
Belgium-based builder Besix has won a contract to build the first super-tall tower in Dubai Multi Commodities Centre’s Uptown Dubai district (DMCC) next to Jumeirah Lake Towers.
As part of its contract, Besix will build the 78-storey Uptown Tower, which will provide views of Dubai’s waterfront and skyline. Besix will work through its Dubai-based entity Belhasa Six Construct.
DMCC said the new tower “replicates the brilliance of diamonds through its faceted glass façade that illuminates the interior spaces with natural light while filtering out harsh glare”.
The interiors of the luxury hotel, food and beverage outlets, and the health spa designed by Rockwell Group aim to depict the district’s distinct and bold personality, the group added.
Speaking on the news, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DMCC’s executive chairman, said: “Awarding Six Construct the contract to construct Uptown Tower is an important step in bringing the much-anticipated Uptown Dubai district to life. The quality on show from the bids received was incredibly high.
“This reflects the level of interest from the global marketplace to partner with DMCC, and be a part of an ambitious project that will add a new landmark to Dubai’s iconic skyline.”
Olivier Crasson, Besix Contracting Middle East’s general manager, said the contract win is a “significant moment for Six Construct given that DMCC’s Uptown Dubai district is one of the most exciting projects in the region”.
“We look forward to working alongside DMCC to deliver to the Emirate of Dubai a truly unique and inspiring new destination,” he added.
DMCC announced in August 2018 that Uptown Dubai was “proceeding at pace”, with piling and raft works for the first of the two super-tall towers already completed. According to a DMCC statement at the time, the preceding months had seen more than 150 piles installed for the tower, with another 140 put in place to support the first phase of a podium.
