Contracting for building projects was the most licensed activity in Abu Dhabi over the past 30 days, recent data from the UAE Government has revealed.
According to statistics released by National Economic Register, which is the developed by the Ministry of Economy, 104 companies were licensed to carry out building project contracting between 23 December, 2018 and 23 January, 2019.
The UAE's state news agency, Wam, said this growth is attributed to the “continued supply of service projects by the federal or local governments across the country”. Private developments being carried out by UAE property companies also contributed to the high figure, Wam added.
General trading was listed as the second most-licensed activity during the 30 day time-frame, with the sector seeing 74 licenses issued in total. Hot and cold beverages followed third with 57.

The register provides data on the top 10 business activities in the emirate and the number of their associated licenses during a specific number of months. Other most licensed business activities included real estate lease and management services, and the retail sale of women's ready-made clothes, perfumes.
The figures come amid a flurry of activities in the emirate’s building sector. Earlier this month, a subsidiary of Reem Investments awarded a construction contract for a residential tower at Reem Island in Abu Dhabi to Engineering Construction and Development Company.
