Galfar Engineering & Contracting won the contract to build two additional lanes as part of the road dualisation project
Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has said construction work on dualisation of Oman’s Rusail-Nizwa project — which includes building two additional lanes is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019.
According to reports from Oman News Agency (ONA), the ministry is currently finalising the contractual procedures to give the order of work for the project, adding it expects to start construction work in the last quarter of 2019.
The news comes days after the Sultanate-based construction company Galfar Engineering & Contracting was awarded a $224m (OMR86.3m) contract to built the third and fourth lanes in both directions of the road.
Galfar will complete the project over 912 days, with an additional 60 days to finish initial preparatory works.
In a filing on Muscat Securities Market, Galfar's chief executive officer, Dr. Hans Erlings said that he expects the contractor to receive "reasonable income from the project".
Speaking on the roadworks contract, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Eng Salim bin Mohammed al-Nuaimi said: “The contractor will implement the work according to the contract and there is a preparation period for the contractor on the site.”
Al-Nuaimi stressed that the length of the first part of the project is about 27km from the intersection of the Muscat Expressway and A’Sharqiya Expressway.
