The Ajman Tourism Development Department has revealed that it will ban plastic products in line with the government’s efforts to raise significant awareness on the usage of plastic and reduce its impact on the environment.

Speaking about the move, director-general of the department, Saleh Al Jazzeri, said that the Ajman government has been prioritising sustainability of the tourism sector as a key pillar of the Ajman Vision 2021.

For his part, director of the assistive administration at the department, Jawaher Salem Al Matroushi, explained that it has been important [such as banning plastic products] to launch and support initiatives that aim to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development, the UAE's state-held news agency, Wam reported.

Earlier this year, Dubai International Aiport (DXB) — the world's busiest airport said that starting 1 January, 2020 it will ban the use of plastic products at all its consumer spaces.
