India’s L&T inks EPCC contract to construct HPCL megaproject
Contractor will develop a residue upgradation facility at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)’s Vizag Refinery
Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract to develop a residue upgradation facility plant at government-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporations Limited’s (HPCL) Vizag Refinery.
The contract is being delivered by L&T’s hydrocarbon engineering division for HPCL’s ongoing Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project.
L&T said the facility will enable HPCL to convert the heaviest oils into high-quality Euro 6 diesel, while eliminating fuel oil production, as well as increasing feedstock and product flexibility.
The company added that the unit is being implemented for the first time in India.
Commenting on the contract award, L&T’s managing director and chief executive officer for its hydrocarbon engineering business, Subramanian Sarma, said: “L&T has a proven track record of over 25 years in the refinery and petrochemical sector and bagging this contract from HPCL reinforces our integrated capabilities in executing critical plants for the sector.”
