ALEC & Cundall team up for Project of the Future event
The event entailed three groups pitching future project ideas to ALEC & Cundall’s senior figures
UAE contractor ALEC and global consultancy firm Cundall has launched the Project of the Future initiative designed to engage young professionals at both companies to come up with an innovative idea “to build a better future” for the industry.
The first round of the initiative, which took place on Thursday 4 June, entailed ALEC & Cundall asking several of its next generation engineers to pitch ideas which they felt would make a “positive change” in the construction industry.
Three groups spent time developing their perfect model and presented their ideas to the contractor’s CEO Kez Taylor and managing director Hercu Viljoen, the consultancy’s managing director and partner Richard Stratton, as well as Construction Week’s editor Ashley Williams.
The judges offered each group feedback on how they could perfect their model and the second part of the initiative will involve fine tuning their idea, while the third round will see the winning group share their work with the wider industry.
The second and third parts of the initiative are expected to be rolled out later this year.
Commenting on the initiative, ALEC's Kez Taylor told Construction Week that we need to collectively take urgent action to "reverse the current downward spiral of inefficiency" taking place in our sector.
"This collaborative initiative is giving us the opportunity to raise awareness of the current inefficiencies and pave the way forward to transform the construction industry to an efficient and sustainable future for all to succeed."
He added: "The youth and our next generation of leaders have been tasked to find ways of improving process, driving efficiency, creating collaborative environments and using digital technologies to improve delivery of construction projects. We are committed to this quest of creating a better future for everyone.”
Cundall’s Richard Stratton also told Construction Week that with youthful enthusiasm and the digital revolution, we have the opportunity to combine talent and technology to solve the problem of waste and inefficienies.
“[The] Cundall & ALEC collaboration initiative is not an academic exercise, it is intended to be the catalyst to drive change and inspire us all to make a positive contribution. As business leaders it is our responsibility to create opportunities for the next generation to become agents of change.”
