First section of The Link at One Za'abeel lifted to final position
The lift — one of the heaviest in the region — was carried out over 12 days, with a total weight of 8,500 tonnes
Ithra Dubai, fully owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), marked a new milestone at the two-tower development, One Za’abeel, with the lift of the 192-metre-long first section of ‘The Link’ to its final position.
According to Ithra Dubai, the lift — one of the heaviest in the region — was carried out over a period of 12 days, with a total weight of 8,500 tonnes.
More than 110 special jacks and heavy-duty strand jacks were used for the operation, collectively by a team of global experts in the fields of construction, engineering, and contracting.
Ithra Dubai said that the first section of ‘The Link’ is now in it final position.
Whilst the second lift, which will weigh 900 tonnes, is scheduled for October 2020. Following which, The Link will reach its final position at 226 metres above the ground. Upon completion, The Link will break a the world record for being the longest cantilevered building in the world.
Speaking about the milestone and a construction marvel, director and CEO of Itha Dubai, Issam Galadari, said: “Ithra Dubai’s One Za’abeel and its iconic Link are modern marvels of engineering and design, a tribute to Dubai’s Vision and the city’s greatness.
“The boundless ingenuity exhibited in this project will attract visitors from all over the world by offering the best in business and leisure. One Za’abeel will soon join the list of wonders attributed to Dubai.”
One Za’abeel is expected to be completed in late 2021. With a total built-up area of 470,700m2, the development will comprise premium office space, 263 high-end residential units, three floors of retail space, 497 ultra-luxury hotel rooms and serviced apartments, and the world’s first One & Only urban resort.
ALEC is the main contractor of One Za'abeel, working alongside other stakeholders including Mace International, WSP, and Kerzner International Holdings, and Omnium International.
