Big 5: Wilo extends ME reach
New Dubai office for maker of energy efficient water pumps
Wilo has been focusing on energy efficient and green products since 2006, and opened a new sales and technical support office in Jebel Ali Free Zone this week.
The company manufactures pumps and systems for building services, industry, municipal water supply and disposal.
It introduced two green products to the market last year, which were the Wilo Stratos, a high efficiency pump for heating, cooling, air conditioning and the Wilo Multivert MVIS, a glandless pump for pressure boosting.
It also introduced the Wilo EMU pumps a couple of years ago for municipal sewage management. According to Simon Mrad managing director Wilo Middle East FZE the company was established in Germany in 1872.
“Since 2006 we are mainly focusing on energy efficient and green products because of market demand also because of new European rules which will be introduced to the market in 2015 which demands all products that take up energy consumption will not be allowed to be produced unless they meet specific green standards,” he said.
“We feel it is a great challenge for our company and for society in general because it is for our future generations.” The company opened a sales office in Dubai in 2008 but has now moved into a 5,000ft2 office and 4,500ft2 warehouse comprising 15 sales and technical support staff.
It also plans to open a larger facility for a workshop and a warehouse in 2011 where it can deliver its products to customers in a short amount of time. Currently delivery takes from two to 20 weeks from Europe.
“The new offices will enable us to achieve our primary objective of keeping our own stock and in turn improving on delivery time,” said Mrad. “It will also enable us to provide in-house after sales service support and local training to our customers.
“We are planning to locally assemble our Eco booster sets and other systems with the Wilo energy efficient concept to serve local business needs.
“To better serve the Gulf market, we have set up the organisation into two departments; one for building services and one for water management and other industries.”
Wilo opened an office in Saudi Arabia with two engineers to support the market there in July this year. Mrad added it will further expand in the Middle East by opening an office in Qatar in March 2011.
“We have a five year Middle East goal and we are taking the market here step by step. We want to show our customers we are here and we are interested in the market,” Mrad said.
