13% growth for wastewater treatment market
Wastewater treatment equipment market in GCC anticipates 13% growth
The water and wastewater treatment equipment market in the GCC is anticipated to grow at 13% post-2010, according to the latest research report from Frost & Sullivan.
Senior research analyst Nideshna Naidu noted in the report that “the market is fragmented, with more than 150 participants in the GCC region.”
Large players like Metito (Overseas), Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, WETICO, Aquatech International and Metito Arabia Industries hold a combined overall market share of 56%.
“The intensity of competition is expected to increase with Indian and East Asian players in the fray,” said Naidu. He added that the market “is highly price-sensitive. Consequently there is intense competition in less technologically complex products.
“Furthermore, profit margins for such products are under pressure. Similarly, there is immense competition in some component categories such as valves and pumps.”
The major water-treatment technologies include demineralization, membrane technology, clarification and disinfection. The GCC is a frontrunner in membrane-based desalination, with multi-stage flash and reverse osmosis the dominant technologies.
“Going forward, the wastewater market will see increase use of treated wastewater. Accordingly, it is expected that an increasing number of treatment plants will opt for tertiary treatment.
“Hence the market for advanced wastewater treatment technologies like membrane bio reactor and sequential bio reactor is expected to increase in the coming years,” said Naidu.
