Engineering, construction and technology firm, the Shaw Group, has been awarded a contract to provide basic engineering services during the expansion of a petrochemical plant in Qatar.

The 720 KTA ethylene plant, located in Mesaieed, is being expanded by 25% by Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) as a means of increasing capacity.

Speaking about the win, Shaw’s Energy & Chemicals Group president Lou Pucher said: “Shaw has provided services to Qapco at this plant for nearly ten years."

“Most significantly, in 2002, we provided our proprietary technology and engineering for a successful, significant capacity expansion,” Pucher said.

Last year, the company also announced full commercial operation of a 1,320 KTA ethylene plant in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, for Eastern Petrochemical Company (Sharq).
