Ajman Sewerage Company has informed property owners and managers to prepare their buildings to link up with the city's main network, which will come on stream at the end of this month.

It has also short-listed five companies, in consultation with Ajman Municipality, which property owners could hire to do interior connection work. The five firms are Al Habian Contracting Company, Speed House Contracting, Five Star Contracting, Sagar Al Mulla General Contracting and Velo General Contracting.

"We are expecting to come on stream by the end of this month and ideally serve the whole of Ajman city by the end of 2008," said Olivier Crasson, general manager, Ajman Sewerage Company.

"Some areas that have been coming up in recent months have not been accounted for as they were not in our initial plans, but these will fall into the second phase of linking up Ajman. Ajman is a growing city and this is an ongoing process."

Crasson added that Ajman city had been divided into catchment areas with each one comprising 22 sub-catchments.

"So far we've only asked the first five catchments to prepare to link up," he added.

Under the supervision of a project management team established by the company and Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, a manual detailing connection specifications and guidelines is being provided to each property owner to ensure that the connection conforms with the system's requirements.

"Property owners can engage their own contractors to do the interior connection work or use the services of contractors shortlisted by the company under the directives of the municipality," said Crasson.

A precise schedule has been prepared for all the emirate's areas to connect to the main sewerage system, which will serve 75,000 homes and businesses on 12,500 plots of land when fully operational.

The system will process 50,000m3 of sewage into irrigation quality water each day.
