Elemec wins MEP contract for $400m Mumbai project
Elemec of Dubai clinches major MEP contract in Mumbai 'green' project
Elemec Electrical Contracting Company, a UAE-based MEP contractor, has won the electromechanical engineering, design and execution contract for the $400million One Avighna Park in Mumbai. The project is located at Lower Parel in Mumbai, India's financial capital.
The scope of work includes centrally-controlled building management integrated with a security and safety system, fire protection and detection, CCTV and lighting. All materials required will be sourced from the UAE.
The company clinched the turnkey contract “on the merit of its professionalism and flexibility,” said Kailash Agarwal, chairman of Avighna India, the developer of the project, which in the first phase encompasses 64-storey luxury residential project, 23-storeyed residential and commercial as well as super-deluxe service apartments.
Agarwal, who is also a Sharjah-based NRI (non-resident Indian), said all the buildings in this mega project would be certified as green, which would not allow for substantial energy savings, but also allow for an incentive of a 50% reduction in property tax as per Mumbai municipality regulations.
“It is essential to conserve water as part of green building, and so at One Avighna Park we will be implementing rainwater harvesting and using water from bore wells. Moreover, we will also pay attention to such details as providing natural ventilation and light to common areas,” said Elemec MD K.D. Gopalakrishnan.
The project has been designed by architect WSP Cantor Seinuk of the US, with landscaping by Site Concepts of Singapore.
One Avighna Park will offer eight floors of podium parking, with a capacity of 2,200 cars, and more than 9,290.3m2 of open space with a jogging track, swimming pool and a health club, along with a sewage and water treatment plant.
Elemec, a leading electromechanical company in the Middle East, has carried out such landmark projects as the Lofts at Downtown, Fairways at Greens and La Rivera Tower. It is currently working on the Holiday Inn Hotel in Muscat, the Tilal Complex in Muscat, the Souq Waqif Hotel in Doha and the Prime Tower in Dubai.
“This project marks Elemec’s entry into the high-potential Indian market. The experience and technical expertise we have acquired in the Gulf over the years will give us a lot of advantage,” said Gopalakrishnan.
The project is located in a prime location of 27,870.9m2 at Lower Parel, and is part of a cluster redevelopment scheme estimated at Rs40billion.
