German contractor Ed Zublin has won a US $103 million (AED 378 million) contract from Aldar Properties to build Injazat Data Systems' new data centre and offices in Abu Dhabi.

The project includes a two-storey building to house up to 9,000 servers and associated infrastructure, along with a five-storey headquarters building to accommodate 1,000 employees with a 200-seat auditorium, gym, library, coffee shop and eight-storey car park.

"The selection of Zublin was subject to an extensive technical and commercial evaluation process where they were chosen based on demonstrating the most suitable expertise and market experience to execute this project," said Hazem Al Nowais, senior development manager, Aldar Properties PJSC.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2008.

"Piling work has been completed ahead of schedule and the substructure works are nearing completion," added Al Nowais.

Ed Zublin is also working in joint venture with UAE contractor Saif Bin Darwish to build the 10-lane Saadiyat Bridge, which will connect with the $27.2 billion Saadiyat Island, which is being developed by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTI).

The $184 million contract was awarded last December.
