Metering specialist Elster Group has acquired France-based Coronis Systems from its management and a group of venture capital shareholders led by Banexi and Axa Private Equity.

The move strengthens Elster Group's portfolio of standards-based advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solutions for utilities. Jim McGivern, Elster Group ceo explained: "Coronis Systems has a RF-based AMI technology that is especially strong in water and gas utility networks. The Wavenis technology augments Elster Integrated Solutions' existing EnergyAxis AMI solutions and strengthens Elster's position in the global smart metering market."

Coronis Systems designs and develops ultra-low power, long-range wireless solutions and platforms for original equipment manufacturers (oems) and system integrators. Founded in 2000, over 1.2 million of its devices are deployed in small, medium and large-scale wireless mesh networks worldwide.

Coronis will continue to supply and support its existing customer base as part of the Elster Group. It will also be seeking to expand the market and standardisation for Wavenis-enabled platforms.
