German exports to Saudi rise 20% to $7.5bn in 2010
Germany actively supports Saudi 2010-14 9th development plan
German exports to Saudi Arabia rose by 20% to almost $7.5bn in 2010, and are maintaining a rising trend, said Andreas Hergenrother, from the German Industry and Commerce for Saudi Arabia and Yemen, at a breakfast meeting in Riyadh.
“This is because we are constantly encouraging German companies to participate in much-needed transfer of technology and know-how to help Saudis attain the objectives of their 9th development plan 2010-2014.
"This gives emphasis to the diversification of industrial production and the creation of employment opportunities in the service sector,” Hergenrother told the meeting.
The business event profiled a product range from special lifting machinery to mobile robots, landscape architecture and high-quality manufactured tools.
Abdul-Karim Yaquob, executive director of foreign affairs at the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, estimated that about 100 Saudi and German businessmen had attended the meeting.
