Dormant Saudi-Egypt causeway project revived
32km bridge will link Saudi to Egypt via the Gulf of Aqaba
Saudi Arabia and Egypt are believed to have revived a dormant project to build a 32km causeway connecting the two countries.
The causeway will link Saudi Arabia to Egypt via the Gulf of Aqaba from the Ras Hamid area in Saudi to Ras Nassrani near Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.
A senior official from the Saudi-Egyptian Business Council reported that a fresh feasibility study was on the cards. The project would in all likelihood be tabled for the agenda of the council’s August meeting in Jeddah. Comprehensive studies on financial cost and technical feasibility are expected as an outcome of this important meeting.
“The findings of these studies will be submitted to the respective officials of both countries,” said Abdullah Dahlan, chairman of the Saudi-Egyptian Business Council. The financing will be derived from the private sector and GCC investment funding.
