And the winner is...

We all love a bit of recognition for our work, whether it's a trophy or a pat on the back.

COMMENT, Design

We all love a bit of recognition for our work, whether it's a bright shiny trophy or a gentle pat on the back teamed with a subtle nod of acknowledgement. We at Commercial Interior Design believe that the region's interior designers have earned a night of lights themselves, and so to coincide with our second anniversary, and the Index exhibition in November, we are holding our first interior design awards to give designers in the GCC a chance to showcase their latest projects and receive the industry credit they deserve.

Nominations are already flooding in, with a pleasing amount from other GCC countries, in addition to the usual suspects closer to home. The 12 categories encompass every speciality and niche of commercial interior design, including Retail; Corporate; Sustainable; Public Sector; Residential; Hospitality; Leisure and Entertainment, as well as the most coveted award for the Interior Design Firm of the Year and an individual prize for the top regional interior designer.

We have also decided to include a prize for design firms to nominate a Young Designer of the Year, aimed at rewarding budding designers under 30 years old, who are committed to injecting the region's interiors with inspiring innovations.

In addition, industry rumours are true, we are busy putting the final touches to templates, creating covers and putting together profiles for the launch of Middle East Architect next month. To give the architecture firms a chance to dust off their 3D models, tweak their autocad designs and show us how they're changing the Middle Eastern skyline for the better, we also have an award for the Architecture Firm of the Year to celebrate our new magazine launch.

In a region that is grabbing global headlines for its gutsy ambitious designs, a dedicated awards ceremony that honours the best players in the field and raises the bar of interior design can only be a good thing, and we welcome every interior design firm currently working on projects in the Middle East to get involved. The closing date for nominations is the end of September, so if you haven't already submitted your sample boards or polished your PowerPoint, there's still time.

See you on the 4th November, and good luck!
