China to export light-rail trains to Turkey

Chinese railway authorities have announced it will soon be sending the first shipment of domestically-produced light-rail trains to Turkey.
The light-rail trains, manufactured by China's CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company, rolled out of the assembly lines this week. They will be transported for service to Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city, state-run People's Daily reported.
GM Xu Zongxiang said the trains were designed according to the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS), an internationally-recognised standard for the construction of trains and signalling equipment.
Meanwhile, China's second-largest train manufacturer is to recall 54 bullet trains used on the new showcase Beijing-Shanghai line due to safety concerns.
The recall of the trains by China CNR Corp. Ltd. comes three weeks after 40 people were killed in a high-speed rail crash, which triggered a freeze on approvals for new railway projects.
