Pacific Control Systems has jointly established the Middle East Centre for Sustainable Development with EHS, the environment, health and safety regulatory division of Dubai World.

The centre is intended to help developers in the Middle East obtain green building certification in accordance with the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

It has been established in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 rolled out by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This plan places an emphasis on the wide utilisation of resources to build an environment for the sustained growth of the Emirate.

Pacific Controls Systems chair and CEO Dilip Rahulan commented: "The establishment of the Middle East Centre for Sustainable Development marks the beginning of a new era in development. Pacific Control Systems is committed to making [the centre] the focal point of all future sustainable development initiatives, which will put Dubai on the global map in regards to environmental protection and energy efficient practices.

"It will establish benchmarks and guidelines that will assist all developers in the region to adapt to sustainable development guideline," he added.

"The centre will enable a one-stop-shop for the design, construction guidelines, technical support, sourcing of material and certification to all parties that wish to progress on sustainable development projects in the region," added Alex Abraham, manager of EHS (Free Zone and Industrial Operations).
