Envac to install waste management system for Doha mega project
Envac is to install a system that recyles 80% household waste in residential buildings of the Msheireb Downtown project in Doha.
The system is designed to handle kitchen waste, dry mixed recyclables and residual waste and uses air to suck the waste through a steel pipe network to a centralised waste collection terminal.
“With this system from ENVAC, combined with an education campaign for all residents, we can ensure Msheireb Downtown is at the forefront of the world’s ‘green cities’ movement,” said Mohammed Al-Marri, projects director of Msheireb Properties.
The waste management company was appointed following its work on the Pearl of Qatar and Heart of Doha regeneration project. Envac has also won a contract for Doha International Airport.
Al-Marri explained that the two would work together to launch workshops on how to use the system, and organise visits to the collection area so people could see how waste is collected and segregated.
“We are confident that through education programs such as these, future residents of Msheireb Downtown will make the neighbourhood’s green credentials a real point of pride.”
