The architectural design work for the National Holding Headquarters (NHHQ) in Abu Dhabi has been awarded to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) by Bloom Properties.

The NHHQ is located in Capital Centre, a new micro-city comprising residential and commercial units, developed by ADNEC.

The 14-storey building will comprise offices and luxury floors with in-house amenities, restaurants and showrooms as well as a car park for 450 vehicles.

Bassam El Khoury, VP sales and marketing at Bloom, said: "SOM has been selected among five other international companies that have competed for this project, which is considered to be one of our outstanding architectural projects.

"The NHHQ design is expected to rely on new concepts and standards that emphasise sustainability and preservation of the environment," said El Khoury.

The project has a built-up area of 44,000m2, with each floor spanning 1,500m2. Construction work on NHHQ is anticipated to commence in the last quarter of 2011.
