The Centre of Waste Management Abu Dhabi has set up a $19m recycling plant to dispose of plastic waste.

The factory, which has two production lines each with a capacity of 25t a day, has been designed to host two more production lines in future, doubling its capacity.

“By diverting material from landfill and recycling waste materials on one site, the negative environmental impacts of transportation are minimised,” Reinhard Goeschl, GM of Emirates Environmental Technology, told Gulf News.

The facility will process plastic recovered by the sorting station, from mixed waste collected from households, business establishments, and organisations across the Al Ain area.

In addition, the CWM Abu Dhabi has set up a tyre recycling facility in partnership with Omnix international. The facility, located in the new industrial city, has a production capacity of 6.3t an hour.
