Emaar places order for penguins from Peru
Aquarium and Discovery centre at Dubai Mall on target for completion next Summer.
Emaar, have recently purchased 50 Dwarf Penguins to go in their Discovery Centre, as part of their new Aquarium and Discovery centre, due for completion next August, at the foot of the Burj in the Dubai Mall, set for completion next September.
Fred Durie, Executive Director of Emaar: "We tested the aquarium, made sure there were no leaks last week, and the water from that is now the water in the lake."
The lake will have a Bellagio style fountain in the middle of it, to be done by the original Bellagio fountain designers at the Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas by the same name.
The birds are said to be amongst the last of their kind in the world, and have been cleared by inspectors of avian flu, after the recent world-wide scares, and the ban on transportation of birds.
"We were looking to get the last Dwarf Penguins, from somewhere like Peru, I signed for them, then the day after we'd sent the money they had put a ban on because of the Avian flu. Luckily we found out ours were clean the day before, so we've got something like 50 baby penguins to run around at the Discovery centre."
"The penguins are in storage in Peru at the moment and will be shipped over next summer. No matter how old you are, everyone will love it when the penguins come out."
