Expert hot for outsourcing in GCC district cooling
Outsourcing will allow DC providers to pass on savings to end users
A leading expert in district cooling has called on GCC based providers to embrace outsourcing energy and water efficiency so as to pass on their savings to end users.
Dan Mizesko, managing partner at Al Shirawi US Chillers, told MEP Middle East that he felt that the regional district cooling industry needed to do some internal reflection about the services they provide, and what changes they needed to make.
“The future of district cooling is dependent on reducing the cost to produce a ton of cooling. If this is not addressed, the industry is in for a rough road ahead,’ he warned.
“(As such), the industry must embrace outsource services provided by industry professionals who can provide guaranteed Kw and water reductions to the industry, which can be passed on to the end user through reduced charges.”
Mizesko added that the main difficulty in achieving this was the resistance from local district cooling providers to realise that specialist firms could provide a better service for their clients and end users.
“I think the greatest challenge will be for some district cooling companies to come to a realisation and embrace the benefits of guaranteed outsource services. In today’s business environment, most successful companies are searching for new ways to improve bottom line results and customer satisfaction, and guaranteed performance based outsourcing is a means of achieving this,” he explained.
“It would make good business sense for chilled water plant operations and maintenance to be performed by specialist companies.”
