India's Gammon & Billimoria has won a US $68 million (AED 250 million) contract from Dheeraj & East Coast (DEC) for the construction of Marina Wharf I and II at Dubai Marina.

India's Gammon & Billimoria has won a US $68 million (AED 250 million) contract from Dheeraj & East Coast (DEC) for the construction of Marina Wharf I and II at Dubai Marina.

The piling and shoring work, which has been undertaken by Zetas, is nearing completion, and construction is expected to begin soon. Dimensions is the consultant and work on the residential project, which is worth $142 million, should be completed by September 2009.

According to Dheeraj Wadhawan, managing director, DEC, tender assessments focused on the bidders' regional experience.

"Quality has been the mainstay and hallmark of DEC over the years and, even in this project, tender invitations were based on very stringent, pre-qualification criteria that focused extensively on regional experience given the rapidly changing regional dynamics," he said.

Gammon & Billimoria's other projects in the UAE include the the concrete domes and control tower at Sharjah Aiport, the Ramada Hotel in Bur Dubai and Emirates Bank in Deira.

"Gammon & Billimoria perfectly fitted the bill and we are confident that they will achieve the desired results within the given timeframe while maintaining our high standards," added Wadhawan.
