Arabian Foundations Engineering has been awarded a US $46 million (AED 170 million) contract from Tameer Holding for the enabling works on the Tameer Towers project in Shams Abu Dhabi on Reem Island.

The contract will involve mobilisation, shoring, earthwork, dewatering and piling work.

It will also include the construction of a 1,500m diaphragm wall with a depth of 20m, yielding a volume of more than 900,000m³ excavated for the four-level Tameer Towers basement.

More than 1,000 piles will be needed for the foundation of the project, which is made up of a 300m commercial tower, four residential towers, townhouses, villas and a marina.

Arabian Foundations is a subsidiary of the Al Ghurair Group.

"We are looking forward to an immensely productive collaboration with Arabian Foundations for the execution of the highest quality works which will lay the foundation for our flagship development," said Abdallah Shaaban, managing director of Tameer Abu Dhabi.

The project has been designed by UK-based arthitects, Gensler. Thornton Tomasetti from the US is the structural engineer, while the UK's Hilson Moran is in charge of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering work.

Construction is expected to begin early next year, with a target completion date of June 2011.
