Two subsidiaries of Italian State Railways (FS), Italferr and Italcertifer, have been awarded a contract by the Saudi-Spanish Al Shoula consortium to act as safety verification engineers on the Haramain high-speed project in Saudi Arabia.

The two companies will certify the safety and quality standards for the 450km Mecca – Jeddah – Medina high-speed line, which is currently under construction.

The Italian engineers will attest the safety requirements of all aspects of the line, and carry out all inspections in accordance with European standards.

The contract, currently limited to the second phase of the project, is approved by Saudi Railways Organisation (SRO).
