UK group to promote FM
Action group is formed to help FM get the recognition it deserves in the UK
The UK FM industry has taken action to help raise awareness of the industry to the wider business community.
Action FM was formed after a round-table event organised by i-FM.net concluded that there was not enough being done to promote the industry.
Ian Fielder, chief executive of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), said: “BIFM welcomes the formation of the Action FM group and is happy to be involved in any initiative that raises the profile of FM with the business community and beyond.”
The group aims to promote the strengths, benefits and opportunities of FM to key groups including business, the media and education.
It will focus on particular issues where the contribution made by FM delivers real benefit to UK plc and to the broader community.
Areas likely to be included, are: the workplace, people and productivity; health & safety, risk and compliance; sustainability, energy and waste management; public services and the 2012 Olympics.
“This is a turning point for the FM sector.
It’s about time the value we add as professional bodies starts to be recognised by the wider world,” said Michael Cant, deputy chairman of the RICS FM Faculty.
