Dubai-based ETA Star Group's Mechanical & Electrical Division has formed a joint venture with French firm Cegelec Transport Division to offer solutions for future transportation and high voltage projects in the Gulf.

The two firms have collaborated to form a 50:50 co-operation venture in the UAE. This will service light rail, metros and tramway projects and offer turnkey solutions for the region's high voltage infrastructure sector.

ETA Star Group branch Prime Technologies will conduct the co-operation from Dubai with Cegelec. The venture's operations will extend throughout the UAE, Qatar and India. The estimated turnover for the next two to three years is around US $100 million (AED367 million).

ETA M&E Division senior executive director Ashok Agarwal commented: "Since there is no local company that has the past expertise in this specialised field, we expect to capture 50% market share through this new co-operation [with Cegelec].

"The project is an example of how the well established experience of ETA M&E Division in rail and transportation in the UAE combined with Cegelec's technology in traction power supply and rectifier products, can create industrial diversification and take up more projects," he added.
