Siemens wins $109m deal from Transco

New substation at Shamka will help meet growing demand for electricity

NEWS, Projects

Siemens has announced a $108.9m contract win from Abu Dhabi's electricity grid operator Transco.

The company will build a new substation at Shamka to help meet increasing demands for power in the eastern part of the Emirate.

The 400/132/33kV station contract follows on from a similar award for a substation at Mahawi last year.

Siemens has been working for Transco - a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority - since 1976,

Wolfgang Braun, Head of Siemens Power Transmission Middle East, said: “The award of Shamkha substation by Transco further strengthens our strong and longstanding ties with the company and demonstrates the faith the company places in Siemens to deliver challenging projects of high quality and on time.”

The substation will contain 400-kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), 132-kV switchgear, 33-kV switchgear, and 500MVA and 120MVA power transformers, as well as plant equipment.
