Conference focuses on safety design in buildings
Dubai event attended by leading figures in construction industry
A conference focusing in safety design in buildings has taken place in Dubai.
Supported by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), Safety Design in Buildings was attended by leading figures in the construction industry who discussed fire prevention and safety practices surrounding building design.
During the event, Stephen Lipscombe, chairman of GGF Middle East and North Africa, reiterated the importance of highlighting environmental, social and economic challenges surrounding safety standards in the region’s building and construction industry.
He added that the conference was line with GGF’s strategy to review current policies and practices in order to develop better solutions for the protection of life and assets.
Ziad Yazbeck, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Glass LLC, which hosted the event, said: “We believe in the need for constant review of industry practices to ensure the highest levels of efficiency in the region’s manufacturing and design processes. The conference, which was also supported by the Society of Facade Engineering and the American Institute of Architects Middle East, featured presentations and panel discussions on key topics such as The New Era of Developing Fire Strategies in the UAE, Perimeter Joint Fire Protection in Curtain Walls, Cable Safety and Fire in Buildings, and Specifications and Value Engineering.
Some of the speakers at the event included; Aaron Vanney, senior consultant at Rolf Jensen and Associates; Amir Toma, engineering and training expert at Hilti; V Jagdish, business head at Underwriters Laboratories; Imad Al-Khatib, business development executive at NAFFCO; and Kevin Hulin, chairman of the fire resistant glazing group under GGF, United Kingdom.
The panel discussions were moderated by Andy Dean, general manager of EXOVA and member of the Society of Façade Engineering, and GGF Middle East's technical chairman Richard Gulliver.
