European design companies are staying above their Asian competition by providing top designs and skilled know-how, according to European exhibitors at the Big 5.
Increased competition from Asian markets such as China and India means that many European companies can no longer be price competitive.
"Obviously labour and supplies are cheaper in Asia than they are in Europe," explained Denis Pasini of Stone Design.
The French company, based in Poitiers, produces sanitaryware manufactured from French limestone and is visiting the Big 5 for the second time.
"We find that Jordanian, Egyptian and Iranian companies are able to create much cheaper products but European design and know-how with regards to installation is still superior. You can get limestone from many places but the design and style of our product is very different," added Pasini.
Jean Sommereux of Ego agreed that European companies needed to provide extra to stay above the competition. "We need to supply more than just a product. European firms now need to provide a lifestyle, a way of living and a style that is completely different. It needs to be something that people aspire to have. People here in Dubai recognise quality and a succinct style when they see European products," he said.
