By using laser cut and welded stainless steel, companies can reduce the associated costs of using the metal, according to an industry expert.

Speaking yesterday at the Big 5, Reinhard Aumayr, managing director, Laser & More said the increased price of stainless steel was reducing its popularity across Europe.

"People in Europe are starting to substitute stainless steel for other materials due to an increase in costs. But we believe that by using stainless steel that has been laser welded you use less and therefore you can keep the prices down," he explained.

The Austrian company supplies laser-cut and welded components in stainless steel. It is able to manufacture the metal so that it forms hollow structures, as opposed to solid ones, meaning less material is used.

This is the company's first appearance at the Big 5 and Aumayr hopes its presence will increase its standing in the region. "What is happening here in Dubai is incredible. We want to be part of this market and believe the Big 5 is the right place to get ourselves known," he said. The company is currently in talks to supply the Dubai Metro with its products.
