Gensler appointed to Kuwait leisure scheme
New 5,760m2 restaurant-led project for Gulf coast south of Kuwait City
US-based architecture firm Gensler has been appointed by Wafra Real Estate to design a new leisure complex in Kuwait.
The firm will provide design and supervision consultacy to a 5,760m2 project containing restaurants and entertainment venues on the Gulf coast at Al Mahboula, which is just south of Kuwait City.
Gensler said the destination will be "the first of its kind in the region, offering patrons a gathering place where they can dine, meet and mingle, while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Arabian coastline"
Gensler said its design would provide a retail venue that is unqie to Kuwait.
“In recent years Kuwait has experienced an emergence of new trendy dining developments. Wafra’s intent is to build the ultimate dining destination, catering to Kuwaiti nationals and expats alike,” said Gensler Abu Dhabi's managing director, Tareq Abu-Sukheila.
“We have designed Wafra Seef to offer beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, with spectacular views of the Gulf. Wafra Seef will be an experience like none other in the region. Our designers utilized Gensler’s ample expertise in retail to provide a distinctive complex enhanced by the beautiful surroundings of the Arabian coast.”
Many of the units will be completed to shell and core, allowing for operators of the restaurant units to create their own spaces within units. Further lifestyle units could also be integrated into the design, including gyms, health clubs and entertainment units.
Wafra Real Estate Company project manager said that Gensler's design for Wafra Seef "encapsulated our desire to build an exceptional restaurant experience that enhances the sea location, providing visitors with a one-of-a-kind, dining and entertainment experience”.
