CN Marmi, a company based near Milan, Italy, has chosen the Big 5 and the UAE as the location for the launch of its new range of illuminated transparent marble.

Thin layers of marble can be illuminated with solid neon lamps placed underneath. Similar technology has been used on materials such as onyx, but this is the first time it has been applied to marble.

Slaps of 1cm in thickness can be used for cladding, whilst 2cm ones are recommended for use in flooring.

The technology can also be integrated into fixtures such as sinks and kitchen units.

This is CN Marmi's fourth year at Big 5, and the region was chosen as the launch location because of the forward-thinking attitude that customers have in the Gulf.

"We know people here like beautiful things, and new things, too," said Gloria Celli, export manager.

"People in this region are very open-minded and interested in new ideas."
