GAJ to design Saadiyat Island school
Architect lands brief to deliver Abu Dhabi's biggest school
GAJ has announced it has been awarded the contract of full service for top UK boarding school Cranleigh, in partnership with Abu Dhabi’s TDIC on Saadiyat Island.
The 147 year-old English school will open its Abu Dhabi Branch in late 2014, which is set to be the largest school campus in the emirate.
It will be built across seven hectares of Saadiyat Island accommodating more than 1800 students aged between three and 18.
Cranleigh Abu Dhabi will feature high end specialist facilities for key educational departments in music, art, science, design and technology, sport, drama and dance as well as state-of-the-art IT facilities.
The campus will also house a 650-seat auditorium, 2,900m2 sports centre as well as 19,300m2 of outdoor fields.
Project leader and associate partner, Peter Moy, commented: “It is great news that this project is moving forward. We have developed the design of the campus and buildings closely with the client team to offer world class educational facilities in a stunning location.
“The whole concept for the project is based around a landscaped ‘village green’ forming the heart of the campus and we are really excited about turning this idea into a reality”.
As a practice that is active in the education sector, GAJ is currently working on eight schools in the UAE.
