Qatar to award 30 road projects worth $28bn
Recent awards include $640m Al Jaber contract for Doha Expressway
Qatar is expected to award 30 highway projects this year, valued at $27.5bn, as part of a major upgrade of the country’s road infrastructure in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, reports MEED Projects ahead of its Qatar Projects 2013 conference.
Qatar, together with Saudi Arabia, has one of the GCC’s busiest road markets to date, with $1.8bn worth of contracts awarded thus far.
Recent road-contract awards in Qatar have been a $640m win for the Al Jaber Group of the UAE for the Doha Expressway Package 13, and a $961m win for Hyundai Engineering & Construction for the Lusail Expressway.
This is taking place against a backdrop of major road building and upgrades in the GCC region, with $4.9bn worth of construction contracts in the road sector already awarded last year, up 22% compared to 2011.
Qatar Projects 2013 will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha from 17 to 20 February.
