Salwa Road upgrade in Doha on track for Q3 finish
Salwa underpass will open partially this weekend, reports Ashghal
The Salwa underpass, part of a major road upgrade underway in Qatar, will open partially this weekend, while the road will be fully operational by the third quarter, according to Ashghal president H.E. Eng. Nasser Ali Al Mawlawi.
The project, which includes an extensive upgrade of the existing Salwa Road, will deliver 7km of dual carriageway along the alignment of the existing road, H.E. Eng. Al Mawlawi told The Peninsula.
It will feature eight lanes, four lanes in each direction separated by a median with continuous service roads.
There will be four two-level interchanges along this section, with the main Salwa Road placed as an underpass beneath the crossroads to ensure smooth traffic.
The project is set to provide a strategic corridor between the centre of Doha and the Saudi Arabian border. It is an integral part of Ashghal’s Expressway programme.
This comprises 30 major highway projects across Qatar, including new and upgraded freeways, expressways and arterial roads, as well as substantial upgrades to existing roads.
