ANALYSIS, Design

Last month saw the opening of a Pop-Up Supper Club and Café in the heart of New York's midtown. Designed by Rockwell Group architects, this former Hard Rock Café was transformed for two weeks into an urban forest of glittering votive candles, hanging strings of mirrors and webs of bungee cords.

Decked in shades of blue and purple, the style was created to evoke a feeling of a city at night. Blue walls coupled with blue paint dripping from the pooling on the stairs and blue powder shag rugs with blue graffiti decorating the waiting area, provided striking contrasts to the white accents of the furniture.

Tables with Arctic White Corian surfaces were unusually high, while original chandeliers painted white were lowered to create an intimate feel. The lighting by consultant Ben Stanton was designed to add to the urban illusion, producing sparkling city lights from reflections in the hanging mirrors.
